I stopped changing motor oil around 1983 when I installed my first AMSOIL By-Pass oil filter. You just can't wear out an engine that never has dirty oil. I changed the oil filters at 25,000 miles and as long as the chemical analysis of my motor oil showed it was still like new, I never changed it.
Mind you, I was not trying to avoid oil changes, just trying to keep the oil perfectly clean. Before I tried this system I was changing oil every 2,000 miles. I drove the first vehicle I installed this system on over 200,000 miles without changing the motor oil and at 330,000 miles it was still running strong. This was a '79 2.6 liter 4 cylinder Mitsubishi. It was never overhauled or had any engine change.
I own a collection of different cars, 8 to be exact, with most being antiques. So I don't put a lot of miles on one individual vehicle anymore. But I couldn't imagine having oil changes on all of these cars regularly. Now all I do is change the filters once a year and have the oil chemically analyzed. It's so much better on so many different levels!
